Activating Prior Knolegde for Reading

We are learning to ask questions, before and after reading to engage with the text. What do I know about narratives? I know that narratives are a story, a fiction. Fiction means made up. For an Example: The Harry Potter Books they are made up.
What do I know about Characters? I know that characters are sometimes made up people or someone trying to be a character from something. Characters are a real person trying to funny, Adventures, Exiting and More.
What do I know about questions? I know that questions can be asking a certain thing about something. For an Example: It could be a right there questions or Think and Search questions.

Mars Habitat

In Reading last term, my reading group and I were learing about " Becomeing a martion". I learnt that a martion is were you live on mars. Our activity was to make a mars Habitat. This is how my one turned out.

Anzac Day

Today we have been learing about world war 1. Our Teacher Mr Breach handed us out an item from a box. Mr breach gave us a link for the site to find our item and we had to read the story that was there. For most items there were a link to a story. 

Bunyip Staying

This week we have been learing about persasive writing. perswasive writing is where we are trying to convice somebody to do something. We read a book called "A Bunyip in the billabong". We had to persade the villagers to stay in the billabong if we were going to be the bunyip. If we were the villagers we would be trying to convice the bunyip to move out of the billabong and move.

Dear Villagers

Please don’t make me leave my billabong. I have been in this billabong for over 110 years and nobody has been here to tell me to move out of my house. If you leave me here I will do and be:

a famous super star because I can get photos taken by the tours I will be really famous. I could even have all of my favorite foods when I get so famous.

If you let me stay I will be a real help for birthday parties and how they will be the best parties your kids could ever have. Parties are my thing I make it so that the kids have rides without  buying any rides.

I believe that I am able to not be so annoying  and make loud noises that wake up the Villagers. I don’t want to get everybody to wake up and scream.” It's a Bunyip. It is after us all!!!

AHHHHHHH.”

So you see I am really good. Please leave me in my billabong. It is nice how I like it. It does not need to be clean and clear, I hate that type of cleaness. So you can see I am a big help to the village. Please can I stay?

Christmas Story

We are learning to make a story of Christmas. I made a long story but I also added alot of detail. Have a read and enjoy.

There was a Nutcracker outside all alone playing in the snow. It was Christmas eve and no one was playing with him so he had to cover himself with snow. He wanted to have someone to play with but he was not having much fun by himself. Suddenly there was a bounce on the roof

“ What was that?” cried the nutcracker. There was whispering.

“ lets steal the presents and ruin Christmas for the good girls and boys.” whispered a big voice from the roof.

“Yeah lets do it” said another quit voice.

“ I need to go and see what it is”whispered the nutcracker. Unfortunately it was Santa and his head elf trying to ruin Christmas.

“ But why is Santa trying to ruin Christmas on Christmas eve shouden`t it be on Christmas day. I do not think that they are the real Santa Claus and his elf. I think that they are an evil clone of them?” whispered the nutcracker softly.

“ Then where is the real Santa Claus and head elf I need to find them and quick.”cried the nutcracker.

“ Where is the presents!!. I WANT THEM NOW. Yelled the evil Santa Claus

“Calm down” said the evil head elf.

“NO. I WANT I GET IF I DO NOT GET I WILL BE GRUMPY!!” Screamed the evil Santa Claus.

Suddenly before they got the presents they saw another sleigh with no presents. There were two sleighs. “What is the other sleigh doing here” Scream the evil Santa Claus.

“What are you doing here?” Yelled Santa Claus.

“Go away Santa Clause I'm going to ruin your Christmas and you are going to stay out of it me and my evil elf are going to ruin this perfectly good Christmas for the good girls and boys.”

“No you won't I will save Christmas and you can't stop me”

“With all my powers let Christmas be ruined for all the good girls and boys bring all the presents to me.” As the evil Santa Claus sang.

“STOP” Cried Santa Claus. “Take my reindeer's my powers but just let the good girls and boys have there presents.”Santa Claus painted.

“Ok then” The evil Santa said softly.” Give your powers let the good girls and boys have there presents let me take Santa's Reindeer's and his powers.” Sang the evil Santa. The head elf stopped he cried so hard that the evil Santa had a chance of killing them both but before he could Santa Claus took the knife out of his hand and stabbed the Evil Santa right in the stomach.

“Leave him alone” Cried the evil head elf. Suddenly the head elf got the knife from Santa's hand and suddenly…. The head elf Stabbed the evil head elf and everything was back to normal. Christmas was back and it was nearly bedtime. The presents were back and the girls and boys had a wonderful Christmas and they enjoyed Christmas.

“HO HO HO Merry Christmas!” Yelled Santa Claus riding his sleigh.

I would like to know if you can make a story this long???

Christmas around the world

We are learning about Christmas traditions around the world. Today I learnt that in Italy they only drink and eat very little on Christmas day. In Mexico from the 16th of December till Christmas day they tell a story of Joseh and Mary. In Poland people call Christmas eve the Festival star. In France the children take there shoes of and put them under the fireplace as there stockings for Christmas. In the Netherlands people celebrate St. Nicholas day witch is known as the 6th of December.

Can you tell me about some other Christmas traditions from around the world?

Today I learnt that there are food trations around the world to. I can not rember what foods there were but they were from differnt contrys. we have a teacher that is dutch and we also have a teacher that is welsh that is from briten

Hinemoa & Tutanekai, Romeo and Juilet

Today we listened to a auto book called Hinemoa & Tutanekai. We have to write 3 questions for the characters in the story. Here are my 3 questions that I would ask the characters.

2. Hinemoa when did you know that you were going to be in a story
3.  Tutanekai when did you start your story

Hinemoa & Tutanekai

Today my teacher has asked me to blog about the story. Here are my words about the story.

Hinemoa & Tutanekai has been in love but there fathers do not agree. Hinemoa`s dad wanted to find her a husband so that means that Hinemoa can not find her own. Hinemoa had to swim all the way to where Tutanekai was. Tutanekai was worried that Hinemoa would not come so, he gave up looking for here. So he told his server do go and fetch him some water, so he did. When he got some Hinemoa asked to have it. Then suddenly she smashed the hue and the server went back running to tell Tutanekai what had happened. This whole story is all about love and how they do not get together.

Today our teacher said the we had to read a book about Romeo and Juilet.

First: It was a love story
Second: Romeo Loved Juliet
Third: Romeo meet Juliet secretly
Fourth: They Married each other

So the love from Romeo & Juliet was placed in Verona, Italy where the two families took place one of the families where Montague and the other was the Capulet and the Parents or both clans have hated each other for a long time Romeo was an Montague and Juliet was a Capulet,    

 Romeo was a lover he was looking for love he like someone but she did not like him back so he left her because his cosine told him to leave her and the Benvolio was basically his best friend they encouraged him to stay away from her so he did.

Then there his friends invited him to a Capulet's party it was a costume party so Romeo's friends thought it would be cool to go to it they thought the Capulet's wouldn't find out so Romeo went with his cousin and friend to the Capulet's party Romeo thought that they might find out that they were Montague.

Old Capulet had a daughter that was Juliet, Capulet was hoping that Juliet will agree to marry Count Paris and he is excited to spend time with her at the party which of course is were Romeo and is friends are going.

Know when Romeo and his friends get to the party they were probably nervous because there not meant to be there exact they were not invited so they got in and Romeo's friends went to have fun while Romeo first saw Juliet walking down the left side of those two way stairs with Count Paris as Romeo smiled at Juliet then she smiled back at him then they talked when Paris was talking to Capulet it was love at first site Romeo was sad because it is Capulet's daughter so he was sad but he took the risk of falling in love with her

Romeo soon finds out she loves him too they talked threw the window the second time they meet the talked secretly that they were going to marry each other on secret. while the party was still on Romeo had to leave with his friends.

On the way home Tybalt is still angry that Montague came to the Capulet party so he challenges Romeo but he refuses to fight and then Mercutio agrees to fight Tybalt the Romeo tries to stop the fight by getting in the way Tybalt ends up stabbing Mercutio and then Romeo get's angry and kills Tybalt with a pounding strike and then he makes it home fast home.


Juliet get's sad to hear that her cousin's death and because Romeo has too leave Verona She has another problem too, Her father is going to force her to marry Count Paris. She ends up getting advice from Friar Lawrence Juliet gets poison from Friar Lawrence  and drinks it she ends up getting she is just in a paralyses conciseness that means that she is in deep sleep for about 40 minutes.

  Romeo returns to Verona with a poison he soon finds out that she is dead but she is not dead but Lawrence could not get the message to Romeo so he ends up drinking to poison and he dies then Juliet wakes up and see's that Romeo is dead so she crabs his dagger and stabbed her self.

A tragedy stopped the war Between the Montague'sand the Capulet's because they saw Romeo and Juliet lying down next to each other.

Last day of learing jorney

This week we have been doing learing journey. This is our final day on our learning jorney. For our first activity we had to say 3 things that why you do not want people leaving rubbish around. For the second one we had to relax some how and take a snapshot. For the last activity we had to make a video of what we have been learning, how we liked being on a trip with Curious Kiwi. Antarctica work

For Literacy we are learning aboutAntartica over the past few weeks.We went to the Antarctic centre for a school trip.

ANZAC

For the last two weeks we have been learning about ANZAC Day and Why we Remember the people who risked their lives for our freedom and our way of life.

We read stories about ANZAC one of them was about Animal Mascots.We had peaces of sheets to share between our groups we had pens to write with.

We had a special visitor who was (Connie's Nan )that showed us about a soldiers penny. We had to do a research of the soldiers penny.We had to make sure that we had what was on it and who got given it.We had to make that a drawing docs or a slide.

We watched some videos about Gallipoil and how it happened and what type of day it was.
